WCY Face the Challenge
In the AMWCY map, an editorial team comprising WCY meet once a year to select the information and material to be used in an edition (articles, pictures, illustrations, interviews drawings, poems, riddles, songs). This information is sent by the WCYA members of the AMWCY. Eleven editions have been produced from 2001 – 2011, in three languages, English, French and Portuguese.
These texts are decorated with cartoons, covering over a third of the publication. In addition one poster with a theme is chosen which is printed and distributed in all the 3 languages. It has a huge success because it is displaced whole year long.
Electronic bulletin Calao Express
The internet monthly bulletin « Calao Express » was created in 2005. This news bulletin is designed by contributions from the AWCY. It allows, in few minutes, to inform readers about the activities of the working children, structures and NGOs that support them. It is distributed in the following languages all around the world; English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.
Following a first regional workshop, in 2010 and 2011, national workshops in Comics, were held in several countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal and Togo. Nearly two hundred WCY mastered the art of comics which visualize their actions with the media. The main facilitators of these workshops are senior WCY who lead the training and produce comics regularly.
Video – Clip
On the basis of their own song, the WCY produced a Clip which they use in their publicity campaigns on child rights.
Cartoon « Tounga »
Directed by and for children, this cartoon « Tounga, it can happen to you » tells the story of children in migration, the encountered difficulties and the protection mechanisms by the WCY in their environment. This thirteen minute cartoon is intended to highlight on the various forms of migration and its consequences.( see Calao Express number 92, august 2011, http://www.maejt.org/page%20anglais/English%20calao%20express.htm )
During major events (Book Fair, UNESCO, Italy Peace March in Assise, UNGASS, Germany Africa Forum) there are panels with photos, drawings and posters of the WCY that are presented to the public.
Transcribing the oral expression
The transcription from oral expression recorded on cassette into a vernacular language or French, using the inspiration from the books written by Amadou Hampaté Ba, is an example of a collection of treasures which otherwise would have disappeared. This method helped the WCY to write their first book «Voice of African Children ». It is presently being used by some departmental heads at ENDA. It suggests that some extensive work should be done in order to facilitate capitalization.
The computer as a tool
WCYAs have at their disposal computer equipment to write their messages and communicate by e-mail eventually.
Today the WCY are directed more and more towards forms of social networks like face book and twitter, where they speak the same way as many other children and young people and and in that way they get aware of lots of things. You tube is another media they use and start by posting short films
The AMWCY Web page presents the WCYA actions and publishes their articles, photographs, videos and other publications.
